CIA Chef Brandon Walker Cooks With Heart

The Hudson Valley has a variety of delicious eateries in Dutchess County. One place that's great to enjoy a meal for any occasion is Essie's Restaurant in Poughkeepsie, NY. Essie's is owned and operated by CIA Chef Brandon Walker and his Managing Partner and spouse Latrevette Walker.


The Goodie Drop had the pleasure of interviewing Chef Walker at his establishment over the summer. The menu is described as American cuisine. But the flavor profiles have layers of Caribbean and southern spices. This is the restaurant's 6th year anniversary and Chef Brandon definitely has plans to expand into more food and drink-related businesses in the future.

Chef Walker also uses fresh and locally grown produce and ingredients in the dishes he creates. Some of his Hudson Valley favorites are tomatoes, garlic scapes, and apples. But his ultimate favorite are the tomatoes from the local farm stands! Chef Walker said, "There is nothing like going into the garden and getting a fresh tomato".


During the interview Chef Walker also thanked his wife Latrevette Walker for her support and assistance with running the restaurant. Mrs. Walker is a nurse and she comes from a long line of great family cooks as well.
