Good Charity On The Go!

Have you heard of JD&L Mission International Corp? It’s a fairly new nonprofit that started in 2022, in Poughkeepsie, NY. JD&L is focused on helping people. Their motto is “Serving God by Serving Others” and it’s located in bold letters on the van they use to go out and activate empty spaces to give away living essentials to anyone who needs it.

One stop on their route happens to be an empty parking lot next door to PO Laundromat on 488 Main Street in Poughkeepsie. On July 19, 2025, they turned the empty parking lot into a giving space with meals, snacks, cold water and clothing for both men and women. They also held a mini Bible study with praise and worship too.

The Goodie Drop spoke to Colette Atkinson, the founder and creator of JD&L, which stands for Jesus Died and Lives and asked her why is JD&L doing this?

“We want people to know that there is hope”. She added, “we are here to help people physically and spiritually.”

Atkinson says that JD&L is a charity and they have received donations from volunteers, churches, Stop & Shop, Price-chopper and Bagel World. Atkinson hopes to apply for a grant for future funding and thanked City Councilman Chris Grant for helping to secure the Main Street location.

JD&L plans to find a permanent location in the Hudson Valley, while continuing to be a “church on wheels” so they can meet people where they are and serve.
