The Awesome Poughkeepsie Foundation hosted it's first Pitch Contest last year. The event took place at Reason + Ruckus in the city of Poughkeepsie on December 6, 2022. At the event, 9 speakers pitched about their non-profits/organizations in hopes of winning the contest. The prize was a thousand-dollar grant for their project!

Awesome Poughkeepsie is a community-driven, micro-grant program that gives out a thousand-dollar grant each month to selected applicants who need the funding to do something awesome for Poughkeepsie, NY. The selected applicants consist of community groups and neighbors with great ideas that will positively impact the community. The funds come from a pool created by residents and local businesses/institutions.
The Co-Deans are Gina McCann, Isis Benitez and the Trustees are Anthony Slade, Jordan Schinella, Talent Davis, Tanya Smallwood, Kaite Hite, Diamond Mima, Kate Lashua, Liz O’Raffity.
Speakers for 9 potential projects from various individuals and organizations had to pitch their ideas in 3 minutes or less by talking about their upcoming project and a reason why they deserved the grant.
Antoinette Kane from Little Water Preparatory won the thousand-dollar grant at the end of the Pitch Contest. Ms. Kane is the Lead Founder and Head of Little Water Preparatory. Little Water Preparatory provides an affirming and rigorous learning environment for elementary school scholars that allows students to recognize their power and have agency over their futures.
